Tax Technology Manager
Location: Atlanta - Hybrid with four days onsite
Compensation: $120,000 to $130,000 base salary plus 10% bonus

Role Summary
The Tax Technology Manager serves as the critical connector between the Tax function and Information Technology, ensuring sales tax systems operate accurately and efficiently across a large transactional environment. This role is highly hands on and plays a direct role in system configuration, testing, and issue resolution related to tax technology. The position has broad visibility across Finance, IT, and Operations and directly impacts compliance, reporting, and customer transactions.
In this role, you will own tax technology processes, provide production support, and drive automation and improvement initiatives. You will act as the primary subject matter expert for tax logic within POS systems while ensuring tax requirements are effectively translated into technical solutions.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide production support and issue resolution for tax systems and POS environments
• Manage sales tax logic including applicability, exemptions, rates, and sourcing rules
• Lead testing for system upgrades, POS changes, and tax rule updates
• Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot sales tax calculations within Avalara
• Support POS integrations to ensure accurate tax treatment across transactions
• Write and review SQL queries to support reporting, validation, and audit needs
• Partner with Finance, IT, and Operations to ensure system accuracy and compliance
• Identify process improvements and automation opportunities within tax technology workflows
• Serve as the primary liaison between Tax and IT teams
Key Requirements
• Five or more years of experience in tax technology, tax systems, or related roles
• Strong hands on experience with sales tax concepts including nexus, sourcing, exemptions, and rate determination
• Experience working directly with POS systems from a configuration or technical perspective
• Advanced SQL skills with the ability to independently analyze and validate data
• Proven experience using Avalara for sales tax calculation and compliance
• Ability to operate in a hands on, individual contributor focused role
• Excellent communication skills with both technical and non technical stakeholders
• Strong problem solving skills and ability to work independently in a dynamic environment
Preferred Experience
• Retail industry experience
• Hands on experience supporting Oracle based POS environments
• Demonstrated experience representing Tax business needs when working with IT teams
