Role Summary The Tax Director will serve as a senior leader within the family office practice, overseeing complex tax engagements and delivering high-touch advisory support to ultra-high-net-worth families. This role is responsible for directing all aspects of tax planning, reviewing multi-entity and multi-state returns, and managing year-round strategic initiatives tailored to sophisticated client needs.
You will collaborate closely with internal advisory, accounting, investment, and risk teams to deliver an integrated client experience and ensure highly accurate, forward-looking tax outcomes. The position includes leadership responsibilities, client relationship management, and a significant role in guiding firmwide tax strategy and innovation. Key Responsibilities
Lead tax planning, projections, and complex review processes for assigned families and entities
Review individual, trust, partnership, corporate, and gift tax returns for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
Direct quarterly and year-end tax strategies and communicate outcomes to clients and internal teams
Manage large, sophisticated client relationships with autonomy and accountability
Conduct analytical reviews of quarterly financial reports and ensure accuracy of all financial activity
Monitor unique cash flow needs and coordinate with accounting and investment teams to support liquidity planning
Participate in quarterly family meetings to present financial and tax deliverables
Collaborate with advisory, planning, and accounting departments to deliver a seamless family office service model
Mentor and develop team members within the family office group
Support business development efforts and participate in cultivating new client relationships
Contribute to estate planning, entity structuring, philanthropic planning, and other family office initiatives
Review and respond to internal and external communications in a timely and professional manner
Key Requirements
Ten or more years of public accounting experience serving high-net-worth families or family office clients
CPA license required; CFP and Master of Taxation strongly preferred
Extensive experience reviewing and filing complex tax returns and managing tax engagements at a senior manager or director level
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; advanced tax degree preferred
Deep knowledge of individual, trust, partnership, corporate, and multi-state tax matters
Strong project management, prioritization, and communication skills
Ability to manage complex client needs with minimal oversight
High level of discretion and ability to handle confidential information
